  Quartz glass is mainly made of purely natural crystal quartz stone (quartz or quartz sand) or is melted by artificial raw materials.
Quartz is one of the most spread-widely mineral, and its chemical composition is silicon doxide, 47% of it is silicon and 53% of it is oxygen. In nature, oxygen always combine with silicon, therefore, SiO2 is born. About 16 km go down the surface of earth, 65 percent of chemical compound are SiO2 which also called quartz. The ordinary shape of the quartz is a kind of tiny ruleless grains. Its finished crystal needs a series of specific conditions.
Quartz glass is a kind of glass made of SiO2 which divided into transparent and non-transparent. There are now three signs of quartz glass in China, JGS3 (applied range of spectrum wave band is between 260 to 35000 NM), an infrared optics quartz glass by adopting vacuum furnace pressurization; JGS2 (applied range of spectrum wave band is between 220 to 2500 NM), an ultraviolet optics quartz glass by adopting air refining, JGS1 (applied range of spectrum wave band is between 185 to 2500 NM), a FUV optics quartz glass by adopting silicon tetrachloride air refining.
II Physical Chemistry
A Temperature resistance:
Heat resistance is one of the most important functions of quartz glass which superior far to any other glasses. Its melting temperature is above 1713¡æ, softening temperature is 1580¡æ¡À10¡æ and backfire temperature is 1140¡æ¡À20¡æ. Quartz glass can resist the high temperature of 1000¡æ, even 1450¡æ in the short time, the non-transparant quartz glass can resist the temperature of 900¡æ.
Temperatuer resistance£ºno split under 1100¡æ-20¡æ, stablely performing under 1250¡æ and instantly performing under 1300¡æ-1450¡æ.
B Chemical property
As one of the important industrial materials, quartz glass is widely used in semiconductor, new illuminant, precision optics appratus, metallurgy and chemical technology etc.
High purity and chemical stability are the quartz glass' eminent traits. Except fluohydric acid and heat ortho-phosphoric acid (above 300¡æ), quartz glass can resist vitriol, nitric acid, chlorhydric acid, neutral salt, carbon and sulfur etc. Its chemical stability equal 30 times of acid-resisting ceramic or 150 times of nichrome.

D Electricity property
Under normal temperature, its resistance equal 105-106 times of ordinary glass which undoubtedly is a perfect insulation material.

In semiconductor: requisite material in producing semiconductor and its assemblies, such as crucible boat furnace tube of germanium diode and bell-jar.
In new illuminant: high-pressured mercury lamp, long arc xenon lamp, iodine tungsten lamp, thallium iodide lamp, infrared lamp and antiseptic lamp.
In new technologies: ultrasonic delay line of radar, infrared tracking, infrared photo, communicating, spectrograph, prism of spectrophotometer, reflective window of large lenticular astronomical telescope, window of high temperature operation, reactor, radioactive devices, rocket, nose, mouth and blister of missile, radio resistant materials of satellite, radiation, thermobalance, vacuum devices and precision forging.

III Pay attention to when applying quartz glass wares:
¡¡¡¡Cleasing with distilled water and alcohol before using, wiping off dust and oiled dirty, if something impure stained quartz glass, there will cause the loss of penetrating, especially kali, natrium and calcium oeprating under the high temperation for a long time.
¡¡¡¡When quartz glass perfoms with other substances together, coefficient of expansion have to be noticed, or damage will be caused.
